Karachi: The Sindh government has finalized a major road rehabilitation initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and urban infrastructure across Karachi.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to review progress on the Karachi Special Road Rehabilitation Program under the minister’s initiative.
During the meeting, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab briefed participants on the finalization of 183 key roads located in different Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) across the city. He said these roads serve as major traffic arteries and alternative routes, facilitating daily movement for thousands of commuters.
The minister directed the Municipal Commissioner to expedite procedural formalities and immediately initiate the tendering process to ensure timely execution of the project. He said the programme would play an important role in restoring Karachi’s road infrastructure and improving civic facilities for residents.
Highlighting the broader vision behind the initiative, Shah said the Sindh government, under the guidance of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is committed to upgrading Karachi’s infrastructure in line with international standards. He expressed confidence that the rehabilitation work would bring visible improvements to the city’s road network within the current year.
Mayor Wahab also informed the meeting that solar-powered streetlights would be installed after road rehabilitation, following the successful model implemented on Shahrah-e-Faisal to improve energy efficiency and street illumination.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Municipal Commissioner Ibrar Jaffar and Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.
