KARACHI: Conflicting reports continue to surround the transfer of DIG Traffic Karachi Peer Muhammad Shah, as fresh details have emerged regarding an alleged misuse of authority linked to a high-profile kidnapping case. According to Dawn, the Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, issued an explanation letter to Mr. Shah, seeking clarification over his alleged involvement in the “misuse of authority” in connection with a case registered in Hyderabad.

The explanation letter, dated January 16, reportedly gave Mr. Shah three days to submit his response. Subsequently, the Sindh government transferred Mr. Shah on February 30 and appointed Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh to replace him as DIG Traffic Karachi.

According to reports a Hyderabad police team allegedly abducted Karachi-based businessman Danish Mateen from the Defence area and took him towards Hyderabad. Following intervention by senior police officials and members of the business community, the businessman was released later the same night. Subsequent inquiries reportedly linked DIG Peer Muhammad Shah to the case, leading to his removal from office. Authorities allege the matter involved a financial dispute of Rs301 million.
