Probe Ordered in Mirpurkhas Fake Degrees Scandal
Karachi: The Sindh government has launched a major crackdown following the emergence of a large-scale fake matriculation certificate scandal at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mirpurkhas. A high-level inquiry committee has been constituted, and several officials have been suspended as investigations intensify.
The scandal surfaced after the arrest of lower-level staff, who reportedly revealed that thousands of fake matriculation certificates were issued between 2021 and 2025. These certificates were allegedly provided to various individuals, including Afghan nationals, to help them meet requirements for obtaining computerized national identity cards and domiciles.
According to an official handout the Boards and Universities Department formed a three-member inquiry committee. The committee is headed by Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri as convener, with Prof Dr Imamuddin Khoso and Prof Asif Ali Memon as members.
The committee has been tasked with completing its investigation within one month, identifying those responsible, and submitting a comprehensive report.
Meanwhile, based on findings from the Anti-Corruption Establishment and an FIR, key officials including IT Manager Azam Khan and Superintendent (HSC Secret) Muhammad Shahid have been suspended. Earlier, Controller of Examinations Anwar Aleem Khanzada had also been suspended over alleged involvement.
Minister Rahu emphasized that corruption, fraud, and merit violations in educational institutions will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He stated that the inquiry committee has been granted full authority not only to uncover facts but also to identify systemic flaws and ensure strict legal and departmental action against all those involved
