Priya Kumari Case: Delegation Meets IG Sindh

KARACHI:  A delegation of civil society members and representatives of the Hindu community called on Inspector General of Police Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, at the Central Police Office (CPO) to seek renewed and effective action for the recovery of Priya Kumari, a minor girl who has been missing for several years.

The delegation included Priya Kumari’s father, Raj Kumar, senior journalist Mahesh Kumar, Advocate Kalpana Devi, Dr. Dharma Jesrani, and other activists. The participants expressed serious concern over the prolonged disappearance of the girl and the lack of tangible progress in the investigation despite repeated assurances by authorities.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the IG Sindh on the background of the case and highlighted the emotional and psychological distress faced by the victim’s family due to the delay in justice. They urged the police leadership to ensure a transparent, time-bound, and result-oriented investigation, stressing that the case has become a symbol of insecurity and injustice for minority communities in the province.

IG Police Javed Alam Odho assured the delegation that the matter would be taken on a priority basis and that efforts to recover Priya Kumari would be expedited. He acknowledged the seriousness of the case and informed the delegation that he would recommend to the Home Department, Government of Sindh, the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to conduct a comprehensive probe and bring all available resources to bear on the investigation.
