KARACHI: The Ports & Terminals and Telecom sectors continued to dominate the revenue profile of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) during the fiscal year 2024-25, with overall collections rising to Rs306.6 billion.

According to official figures, the Port, Airport & Terminal Operators sector—taxed at 15 per cent—remained the top contributor, generating Rs40.2 billion. This marks a 19 per cent increase from Rs33.67 billion collected in FY 2023-24. The sector’s strong performance was supported by major entities including Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim Authority, along with other leading terminal operators.

The Telecom sector retained its position as the second-largest contributor, posting Rs24.2 billion in revenue—up 13 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year.

SRB’s revenue growth over the years reflects a significant upward trajectory. From a modest collection of Rs25 billion in FY 2011-12, the board’s revenue has surged more than twelvefold to Rs306.6 billion in FY 2024-25.

A major initiative during the year was the launch of the POS Prize Scheme aimed at enhancing documentation and ensuring transparency in the restaurant sector. Under the scheme, customers were encouraged to demand invoices carrying the SRB QR code and verify them through the e-SRB mobile application or the board’s official website. The move ensured that restaurants issued invoices through SRB-integrated Point of Sale (POS) systems, helping safeguard government revenue.

To promote public participation, the scheme offered attractive incentives, including motorcycles, refrigerators and cash prizes for customers who verified QR-coded invoices in the prescribed manner.

Officials said the initiative not only improved tax compliance but also strengthened public engagement in revenue documentation efforts across the province.
