NADRA reduces gender gap in issuance of CNIC
Karachi, January 20, 2026: A meeting regarding the Inclusive NADRA CNIC and Voter Registration Strategy (INVR-V) was held at the Sindh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), NADRA, and relevant provincial departments, including Director General Gender and Social Inclusion ECP Ms. Nighat Siddiq, Joint Provincial Election Commissioner (Elections) Sain Bakhsh Chandar, Director General NADRA, Secretary School Education, Secretary Local Government, and representatives of other concerned institutions.
The meeting was briefed on Phase V of the Inclusive NIC/Voter Registration Campaign aimed at reducing the gender gap in CNIC issuance and voter registration. It was informed that the Election Commission of Pakistan, in collaboration with NADRA and partner institutions, has undertaken phased initiatives since 2017, resulting in a significant reduction in the gender gap in electoral rolls from 12.7 percent in 2017 to 7.1 percent in 2025. Phase V of the campaign focuses on districts where a large number of women remain without CNICs. The participants were informed that 16 districts of Sindh have been selected for this phase, including Hyderabad, various districts of Karachi, Malir, Korangi, Keamari, Sukkur, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Ghotki, and Khairpur. Through mobile registration vans and NADRA registration centers, special efforts will be made to reach unregistered women and facilitate their CNIC issuance and voter registration.
