Lanjar Orders Unified Framework for Traffic-Related Bodies
KARACHI: In a bid to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety in the city, the Sindh cabinet’s finance sub-committee has approved the immediate release of Rs. 100 million for the repair and calibration of traffic signals, road marking, and other related measures.
The sub-committee’s meeting was presided over by Provincial Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. Provincial Ministers Saeed Ghani and Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, secretaries of the concerned departments and senior officials attended the meeting. The Home Minister directed to bring traffic management, engineering, and relevant institutions under one umbrella so that citizens can receive real and effective relief.
The repair and calibration of traffic signals, along with proper road marking, are considered critical for Karachi, where malfunctioning signals and faded lane markings contribute significantly to traffic congestion, road accidents, and delays in emergency services. Effective signal timing and clear road markings help regulate vehicle flow, improve pedestrian safety, reduce traffic violations, and ensure smoother movement on major arteries and intersections, particularly during peak hours. These measures are also expected to support better enforcement and bring immediate relief to daily commuters.
The committee also approved purchase of a historic heritage building located on I.I. Chundrigar Road, terming it an important step for the preservation of Sindh’s cultural heritage and the city’s historical identity.
