HRCP condemns arrest of labour leader
KARACHI: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has condemned the arrest of Iqbal Abro, a labour leader of the National Trade Union Federation. Reports indicate that Mr Abro was arrested by the Korangi police in Karachi and that his whereabouts are currently unknown, thereby violating his right to liberty and due process and protection from arbitrary detention.
Such actions also undermine labour rights and intimidate workers seeking to organise and advocate for lawful workplace protections. We demand the immediate release of Mr Abro and accountability for all officials and private actors involved.
