KARACHI: Leaders of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) — Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Syed Zain Shah, and Sardar Rahim have said in a joint statement that there is clear evidence of a government-sponsored killing, criminal negligence and corrupt governance in the tragic of Gul Plaza in Karachi.

The GDA leaders stated that the horrific deaths of dozens of innocent traders, citizens, and laborers who were burned alive prove that the Sindh government, municipal authorities, and relevant departments have become facilitators of the builder mafia and corrupt officials instead of protectors of public lives. According to them, allowing a building to operate for years without fire safety measures, the absence of safety inspections, and the lack of an emergency response system are not the failure of a single department but represent the collective criminal negligence of the entire corrupt governing structure — the cost of which was paid in human lives.
