Karachi: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Commercial Banking Circle, Karachi has initiated inquiry into alleged irregularities relating to the affairs and records of the Telephone Employees Cooperative House Building Society Limited.
In this regard the FIA’s Assistant Director, through a public notice, has summoned plot holders of the Society to appear at the office and record their statements. The inquiry has been launched in compliance with the order of Sindh High Court to examine allegations concerning missing, tampered, or disputed records of the cooperative housing society, as well as potential irregularities in plot allotments and other administrative matters. Sindh High Court had tasked the FIA with scrutinizing available documentation, verifying the authenticity of society records, and determining whether any fraudulent activity or unlawful manipulation of official files has occurred.
The inquiry stems from proceedings before the Sindh High Court in Constitution Petition No. D-6609 of 2020 and C.P No. D-4921 of 2022, which concern disputes over the administration and governance of the Telephone Employees Cooperative House Building Society Limited in Karachi. The petitions were filed by members and representatives of the society who alleged serious irregularities in its management, including the disappearance of official records, alleged unauthorized constructions, and the failure to hold transparent elections of the managing committee.
During the hearings, the court examined complaints regarding mismanagement of the society’s affairs and the role of regulatory authorities responsible for overseeing cooperative housing societies in Sindh. Among its directions, the court appointed the Nazir of the court as administrator to temporarily manage the society’s affairs and secure its records. The FIA inquiry is expected to determine how the disputed records went missing or were altered and whether any individuals were involved in unlawful activities related to the society’s administration.
