USA: The Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) Women Affairs Wing organized an online seminar to mark International Women’s Day, bringing together activists, scholars, and professionals to discuss women’s rights and empowerment.

The event was hosted by SANA Vice President Women Affairs Shahida Shaikh, with Seema Tunio assisting as moderator. Key speakers included social activist and researcher Naseer Memon, Shahida Ghulam Rasool—founder of the Hyderabad Women Chamber of Commerce—educationist Benazir Junejo, human rights researcher Ayesha Dharejo, and lawyer Kalpana Devi. The media team included Nasir Jamal Pathan and Noushad Ali Shaikh.

Opening the seminar, SANA General Secretary Asad Ali Shaikh welcomed participants and reaffirmed SANA’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights, education, health, and economic empowerment.

In her remarks, Shahida Shaikh emphasized that women are not merely caretakers of the home but builders of society—serving as mothers, daughters, teachers, and leaders. She stressed that empowering women strengthens society and highlighted the importance of equal opportunities, economic independence, education, and the supportive role of men in achieving gender equality.

Naseer Memon noted that many women in society remain deprived of basic rights and are often excluded from decision-making. He also pointed to persistent violence against women and the lack of girls’ access to education, particularly in rural areas.

Shahida Ghulam Rasool highlighted the role of women’s chambers in promoting entrepreneurship and announced the establishment of a Women Chamber in Mirpurkhas to support rural women.

Other speakers underscored the need for improved education, safer workplaces, and greater awareness to advance women’s empowerment.

The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and a vote of thanks from Shahida Shaikh.
