KARACHI (Press Release): A special dialogue on the current state of print media was organized by The Front Page in collaboration with the Karachi Press Club on March 4. The session brought together journalists, academics, and members of civil society for an in-depth discussion on the challenges facing journalism in Pakistan and the evolving trends within the media landscape.

The keynote speaker at the event was Hameed Haroon, Chief Executive Officer of the Dawn Media Group, who shared his insights on the present condition of print media, the challenges confronting media organizations, and the prospects for the industry in the years ahead.

In his address, Haroon noted that print media—particularly newspapers—are currently grappling with a range of financial and professional challenges. He emphasized that a transparent, sustainable, and government-independent financial model is essential to address the growing economic pressures on media institutions.

He further stressed that journalists must adopt an increasingly professional approach to navigate the complexities of the current media environment. Haroon also pointed out that the decline in serious intellectual and scholarly engagement within society has contributed to the difficulties faced by newspapers and the broader print media sector.

The session also featured an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which participants raised questions regarding freedom of expression, professional pressures on journalists, the evolving responsibilities of the media, and the broader challenges confronting the industry. Haroon responded to these queries in detail, making the exchange both informative and thought-provoking.

The event was attended by a large number of senior journalists, academics, and individuals from social and political circles. Among those present were Mazhar Abbas, Tauseef Ahmed Khan, Fazil Jamili, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Owais Aslam Ali, Dr. Jabbar Khatak, Suhail Sangi, Owais Tohid, Nadeem Raza, Munazza Siddiqui, Abid Ali Syed, Fahim Zaman, Aziz Sanghur, Dr. Irfan Aziz, Arif Baloch, Nusrat Amin, Qazi Asif, Akram Khan, Ghazi Salahuddin, Dr. Saeed Usmani, Razzak Abro, Khursheed Abbasi, Raffat Saeed, Salman Pirzada and others.
