Sahrai Leads Kashmir Solidarity Rally at SMIU
KARACHI: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) held a Kashmir Solidarity Rally on Wednesday, led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai. The rally, which began at the I.T. Tower and concluded at the Main Building of the university, saw the participation of deans, department chairs, administrative heads, faculty members, staff, and students.
In his address to the participants, Dr. Sahrai emphasized that the struggle of the Kashmiri people is not just their own, but also a shared cause for all Pakistanis. “We must raise our voices in support of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination,” he stated, underscoring that only through freedom can the people of Kashmir live with dignity and liberty.
Criticizing the United Nations for its lack of action on the Kashmir issue, Dr. Sahrai noted that despite over ten resolutions passed regarding Kashmir, none have been implemented. This, he argued, highlights the UN’s ineffectiveness on critical global issues. “The failure of the UN to act will likely lead to the rise of other international organizations attempting to resolve conflicts, which could undermine the UN’s credibility,” he warned.
The Vice Chancellor also condemned India’s continued occupation of Kashmir, urging the international community to speak out against India’s brutality. “World nations must unite to challenge India’s hegemonic actions in Kashmir,” he said, stressing that the situation in the region could not be ignored.
Dr. Sahrai further saluted the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces, who, he said, protect the nation’s borders and provide stability amid growing challenges. “Our soldiers, many of whom are young and newly married, sacrifice their lives in extreme conditions—from the freezing glaciers to the harsh mountains of Balochistan and KPK,” he remarked. “They are defending not just our borders, but our very way of life.”
The Vice Chancellor also drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, criticizing the UN’s minimal involvement. He called for an end to the genocide of Palestinians, urging that the international community recognize the Palestinian people’s right to their land.
In closing, Dr. Sahrai encouraged all SMIU employees to show their solidarity with the Kashmiri people by posting messages of support on social media, advocating for justice and against the violence perpetrated by India.
