KARACHI: The Secretary of Sindh’s College Education Department, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, has announced strict action against contractors and engineers responsible for damaging college infrastructure across the province. He emphasized that those involved in substandard construction, delays, or using poor-quality materials will be blacklisted and face inquiries and penalties.

In addition, Memon ordered immediate legal action against officers and teachers who have been absent or are on the run. The decisions were made during a key departmental meeting chaired by the Secretary, attended by senior officials including Special Secretary Farrukh Qureshi and Director General Colleges Professor Mir Chand Oath.

The meeting also revealed that 36 female and 44 male staff members have been absent for extended periods. The Secretary instructed show-cause notices for all absent employees and directed that cases involving BS-18 officers be forwarded to the Chief Secretary.

A major decision was taken to merge the Monitoring and Inspection Wing and establish an autonomous Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate to oversee teacher and student attendance, infrastructure, and educational standards in colleges. Additionally, plans were made to appoint a Director General for Monitoring and Evaluation immediately and open an office in Hyderabad.

The meeting further decided to initiate career counseling programs, hold bi-annual seminars, and introduce interactive student sessions, alongside implementing an “Each One Teach One” strategy for out-of-school children.

Secretary Memon stressed that no negligence would be tolerated and that mobile phone use in colleges would be restricted through a formal notification. All officers were directed to perform their duties diligently, with stern action to be taken against any form of neglect.
