‘No PA proceedings till Judicial probe of Gul Plaza incident’
KARACHI: Taha Ahmed Khan, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of MQM Pakistan in the Sindh Assembly has said the MQM Pakistan has made a clear and unequivocal demand for the formation of a Judicial Commission to investigate the tragic Gul Plaza incident.
This he said in a statement issued on Monday. Earlier the MQM lawmakers staged walkout of the Sindh Assembly session. Taha Khan said that until a Judicial Commission is constituted, MQM Pakistan will not allow the proceedings of the Sindh Assembly to continue.
According to him the Gul Plaza incident is a grave humanitarian tragedy that has shaken the entire country. People continued to burn while the Sindh Government’s fire brigade failed to reach the site in time, exposing serious failures in governance and emergency response.
The Chief Minister of Sindh addressed the Assembly with a one-sided narrative and then left the House through the back door, avoiding accountability. The Chief Minister has failed to demonstrate the moral courage required to face the legitimate questions raised by the opposition on the floor of the House.
The martyrdom of Firefighter Furqan is yet another tragic consequence of a decaying, outdated, and failed system. Over the past seventeen years, this government has delivered nothing to the people of Sindh except corruption, misgovernance, and institutional collapse.
He said that expecting an impartial inquiry from the Karachi Commissioner is unrealistic, as he operates under the same government whose failures are under scrutiny. Only an independent Judicial Commission can ensure transparency and accountability by summoning all responsible individuals.
Sindh is not being governed through effective leadership; rather, it is being run by the corrupt and dysfunctional system of the Pakistan People’s Party.
MQM Pakistan will not allow the Gul Plaza tragedy to be buried and will continue its struggle until justice is delivered and accountability is ensured, Taha Khan said.
